About Tim

Tim's professional background spans nearly three decades in nursing, supporting adults across diverse settings - including complex health conditions, cardiovascular care, palliative support, and experiences of loss. This foundation continues to inform his counselling practice, grounding it in compassion, steadiness, and respect for each person's story.

Outside the therapy room, Tim is a devoted father and stepfather in a large, blended family of four teenagers. Life is busy, meaningful, and rarely dull - especially as he's married to Taryn Brumfitt, 2023 Australian of the Year. Together, they navigate blended family life in Adelaide alongside two Burmese cats, while watching a disproportionate amount of golden retriever videos.

Friends and colleagues describe Tim as kind, empathetic, and highly intuitive - qualities that shape the way he listens, responds, and supports people in his work.

Tim brings lived experience of separation and divorce, allowing him to offer grounded support to those navigating relationship breakdowns, co-parenting, and major life transitions. He is deeply passionate about helping men and women find meaning, purpose, and connection, while building strong, healthy relationships with themselves and others.

When he's not working, Tim enjoys hiking, boogie boarding, playing music in a band, and spending time with family and friends. He's also someone who once never believed mindfulness was for him - until life convinced him otherwise. That shift reflects his broader approach to therapy: open, curious, and grounded in what genuinely helps.

Tim's counseling style is calm, collaborative, and practical. He works at your pace, creating a supportive space to explore challenges, make sense of experiences, and take meaningful steps forward whatever chapter of life you're in.

"Tim created a safe, collaborative space where I could finally share parts of my story I had kept hidden for decades. His grounding practices and gentle guidance helped me realise I have choice — and the strength to make decisions I’m proud of." - Kelly P.

Frequently Asked Questions

Absolutely! I see men and women over the age of 18.

You might be experiencing a bunch of thoughts and feelings about your first session, from worry and anxiety to excitement and hope. Whatever you're feeling, it's completely normal, and I'll do my best to help you feel comfortable and at ease. I'll send you an intake form to complete before our appointment so I can gather some basic information about you. However, our first session is all about you - exploring where you're at and what you want to get from our time together.

Great question! Everyone is different, and it really depends on what's happening in your life right now. You might need help with something specific and short-term, or with something that takes longer to work through. On average, 6-8 sessions are typical. I usually recommend starting with weekly or fortnightly sessions, and we'll check in regularly and adjust as needed. Just like your physical health, commitment to your mental well-being is important!

I charge $120 for a one-hour session.

I sure do! I provide online services across Australia via Zoom.

Mental health care plans are for eligible mental health professionals such as psychologists, social workers and occupational therapists. I take your privacy seriously and am committed to complying with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). Your right to privacy encompasses confidentiality. Information discussed during our sessions is confidential and will not be shared without your written permission, except when I am legally obliged: a) to report a serious and imminent threat to the life, health, or property of yourself or another, b) to report any abuse or neglect experienced by a young person under 18, and/or c) to release client records when required by court order. Confidential written records are maintained to reflect the issues and goals identified in counselling sessions and are securely stored for seven years. I am unavailable after business hours and do not provide a crisis service. If there is an emergency, please contact:

It certainly is a small world, and there's always a possibility we might run into each other outside of the counselling setting. If this happens, your confidentiality remains my priority. I'm not being rude, but I won't acknowledge you. Of course, if you say hi, I'll respond!

I hold a Master of Counselling Practice, a Bachelor of Nursing, and a Graduate Diploma in Cardiac Nursing. I am a certified practising counsellor with the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA) and a registered nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
